X open sources its ranking algorithm, letting users see if they've been ‘shadowbanned'

2026-08-14

X has open-sourced its 'For You' algorithm and core ranking engine under the Apache v2 license, significantly expanding its previously open-sourced codebase. The company is also providing tools to allow users to verify how ranking systems affect their accounts or posts. This tool will be available to a pilot test group for at least a year before a broader release.
