The "X is Dead" Fallacy in Data Technologies
The notion that data warehousing, SQL, modeling, semantic layers, and business intelligence are obsolete is a fallacy. While implementations evolve, their fundamental functions persist. Claims that "AI will kill X" often confuse automation with complete replacement; for instance, LLMs can generate code but cannot substitute business semantics, governance, or architectural expertise. The actual transformation lies in which responsibilities are automated, commoditized, or shifted across different layers of the data stack.
