Texas Data Center Growth Stalls
Texas has paused new data center permits and implemented a batch review system via ERCOT due to an extreme increase in power demand, primarily from artificial intelligence and reindustrialization efforts. Developers face significant delays in grid interconnection, complicated transmission cost allocations, and stringent reliability requirements, leading many to consider on-site or off-grid power solutions. While localized power generation can speed up deployment, it introduces challenges with fuel, reliability, and maintenance, ultimately pushing most toward eventual grid connection.
