Stateless MCP necessitates security model adjustments for servers
The most recent Model Context Protocol update eliminates protocol-level sessions, compelling servers to manage stateless requests and shift security considerations into application code. Developers must now verify bearer tokens with each request, safeguard state handles against compromise and shared key conflicts, and treat requestState as potentially malicious input. Servers are also required to reject discrepancies between headers and bodies and to correctly limit the scope of cached tools and resources to maintain security.
