SMART Health Links Extended for Encrypted Medical Imaging Sharing
A new profile, shlink-dicom, has been developed to extend SMART Health Links for secure, end-to-end encrypted sharing of full medical imaging studies via links or QR codes. It uses a standard FHIR Bundle index with DICOM files segmented into 64 KiB records, enabling clients to retrieve only necessary data through HTTP Range requests. The reference implementation, created with AI assistance in less than a day, features WebAssembly-compiled Rust decoders for all still-image DICOM formats.
