Running AI agents with customized templates using Docker sandbox
Andrew Lock enhanced the sbx Docker sandbox tool, demonstrating how to embed pre-installed toolchains into custom OCI images. This approach eliminates per-session reinstalls and isolates AI agents within microVMs, providing scoped filesystem access and a network proxy that securely injects credentials without exposing them to the agent. For teams requiring non-standard base images, Lock reverse-engineered the `docker/sandbox-templates` layer structure to integrate sandbox scaffolding onto any distribution, exemplified with a Debian image configured for the Datadog .NET SDK build environment. Furthermore, isolating the Claude Code installation in its own multi-stage build stage allows for quick version updates using `--no-cache-filter` without rebuilding the entire image.
