QMD is a new open-source, on-device search engine that indexes markdown notes, meeting transcripts, and documentation using a combination of BM25 full-text search, vector semantic search, and LLM re-ranking—all running locally with GGUF models. The tool supports both CLI and SDK usage, integrates with Claude Desktop via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and features AST-aware code chunking using tree-sitter to preserve function and class boundaries for better search results in codebases.
