Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY Actually Scales
Postgres LISTEN/NOTIFY can scale when notifications are treated as lightweight wake-up signals rather than the source of truth. By buffering and batching NOTIFY calls, then using occasional polling as a safety net, DBOS increased throughput from 2.9K to 60K writes per second while keeping latency around 15–100 ms.
