Perplexity launches SPACE runtime for AI agent tasks
Perplexity launched SPACE (Sandboxed Platform for Agentic Code Execution), a sandboxed runtime for long-running AI agents that can execute code, edit files, and complete multi-step tasks over hours to months. The system uses Firecracker microVMs with disposable sandboxes, plus snapshotting and paused-session restoration. It was deployed for Perplexity Computer in June, powering all Computer sessions with large-scale sandbox activity.
