No, local models will not win (7 minute read)
Local models are never going to be as powerful as datacenter models. All of the current frontier models are far too big to run on anything but a full GPU cluster. Smaller models are getting more intelligent, but datacenter models will always be the strongest available. When given a choice, people are going to pick the strongest available model in their price range, the one that frustrates them least, which is always going to be the bigger, more powerful one.
