NHS deploys AI that can clear skin cancer patients without doctors
NHS England's South East division is implementing the Skin Analytics DERM artificial intelligence system across all 18 of its NHS trusts starting this fall. The technology analyzes smartphone images of skin lesions taken after a referral for potential cancer, enabling the NHS to independently discharge patients with benign lesions without requiring a dermatologist's assessment. Skin Analytics estimates this initiative could save approximately 13,500 consultant hours annually.
