Models Are Getting Dumber on Purpose
Smaller models are improving rapidly at reasoning while retaining less factual knowledge, shifting more of the system's intelligence into retrieval, tools, and external context supplied at runtime. This trade can make models cheaper, more current, and easier to correct because facts live in inspectable data sources rather than opaque weights, while the model focuses on reusable reasoning procedures.
