Measuring Component Performance with the Container Timing API
The experimental Container Timing API, developed by Bloomberg and Igalia and available in a Chrome origin trial, lets developers annotate a DOM region and observe how contentful parts of a component paint over time. Via a containertiming attribute and PerformanceObserver, it reports firstRenderTime, cumulative painted size, and latest paint moments rather than one completion signal. Only newly painted contentful areas count, pure decoration is ignored, and viewport-clipped geometry means scroll exposure can drive timing.
