Google's Gemini Agent Prioritizes Governance and Model Selection
During the Gemini at Work 2026 conference, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian unveiled the Gemini agent, a cloud-based assistant designed for answering questions, performing multi-step tasks, and writing/executing code. The agent preserves a unified memory across devices and communication channels, selects optimal models including Anthropic's Claude, and offers robust governance features. Google is integrating its consumer Spark agent into Gemini and embedding it directly into Workspace applications and developer environments without requiring additional licenses for Workspace or Gemini Enterprise.
