GitHub Overhauls Git Infrastructure for Agent Development
GitHub is undertaking a significant overhaul of its Git infrastructure to accommodate agent-based software development, characterized by extensive concurrent read and write operations. The updated architecture is designed to reduce coordination overhead during code pushes, shift intensive maintenance tasks away from the primary serving path, and employ Azure Blob Storage for data durability by separating storage from compute. Initial internal testing indicates the new system can achieve up to 35 times greater write throughput, with independent scalability for read operations.
