DNS Root Key Roll: Adoption Rates Examined
As the October 11, 2026, DNS root key transition approaches, measurements indicate that approximately 70% of end-user populations utilizing supporting recursive resolvers have adopted the new KSK-2024 trust anchor. These findings are based on tests using RFC 8145 trust signaling and RFC 8509 Root Key TA Sentinel queries. However, the data also reveals that many global networks are showing low adoption rates for the new key.
