DNS Is for People – Not for IT Infrastructure
DNS works well for public, human-facing services, but using it for internal IT infrastructure can reduce reliability and increase operational and security risk. DNS can become part of the critical path during incidents, while internal DNS caching and TTL behavior can complicate recovery. DNS also introduces security concerns, such as spoofing and DNSSEC complexity, and creates an exfiltration vector through attacker-controlled domains using tools like dnscat2 and iodine.
