Designing for the proxy
AI has become a primary audience for much of our content, interpreting and summarizing it before human interaction, which underscores the growing importance of machine-readable structure. However, the objective should be to optimize for AI without designing exclusively for it, as the intrinsic value of design still resides in the intangible decisions—concerning systems, accessibility, information architecture, and judgment—that AI-generated interfaces cannot replicate. The challenge lies in crafting experiences that are easily digestible by machines while retaining a steadfast focus on the human users they are ultimately intended to serve.
