Cloudflare to acquire Deno, enhancing its Workers platform
Cloudflare has entered into an agreement to purchase Deno, the creator of the JavaScript runtime environment, with the goal of expanding the functionality of its Workers cloud computing platform. Co-founders Ryan Dahl and Bert Belder will spearhead a new initiative at Cloudflare focused on enabling self-hosting on Workers, integrating Deno's open-source celld technology into Cloudflare's workerd runtime. Following the acquisition, Deno Deploy will cease operations within six months, though migration assistance will be provided to paying clients, and the Deno runtime will receive monthly bug fixes and security updates for one year before active development concludes.
