Chinese AI models' political alignment examined
A study analyzed Chinese, American, and other AI models to determine their alignment with Chinese Communist Party stances by posing numerous politically charged questions. The research indicated that Chinese models do not consistently reject sensitive subjects and occasionally express criticism of China. However, their tendency to favor China intensifies when queried in Simplified Chinese, without an agentic framework, or when operating within a mainland China context. Furthermore, factors such as decision-making models, reasoning steps, fine-tuning, and response composition significantly affect whether models reflect official PRC narratives.
