Character.AI Seeks Bankruptcy Protection After 5 Years
Five years after its launch, the interactive chatbot service Character.AI has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company cited significant challenges related to legal, regulatory, and operational matters. An agreement is in place for Disney to acquire certain assets for $20 million, including a perpetual, non-exclusive license for the technology. CEO Colin Adams expressed hope that the sale process overseen by the court could lead to continued operations, but indicated the platform would be dissolved otherwise.
