Bringing Rust to the Pixel Baseband
Google is migrating the Pixel 10 modem's DNS parser from C/C++ to Rust to reduce memory-safety vulnerabilities in this critical, remotely accessible component. The development team chose the `hickory-proto` DNS crate, incorporated `no_std` support, and integrated it using Pigweed and direct `rustc` builds. This approach successfully addressed issues related to code size, allocators, panics, and symbol conflicts. The new Rust parser now manages DNS responses while seamlessly integrating with existing C data structures and callbacks.
