Bitcoin losses linked to Coldcard vulnerability grow to $70 million
Galaxy Research said nearly 1,200 addresses were drained of over 1,082 BTC (~$70.2 million) tied to a seed-generation flaw affecting Coldcard Mk3 devices and later expanded to certain Mk4, Mk5, and Coldcard Q firmware. Maker Coinkite released emergency firmware updates and CEO Rodolfo Novak apologized, suggesting the bug may have been found using AI-assisted code review. Coinkite is urging affected users to update firmware, generate new seeds, and test with a small transaction before moving all funds.
