Athanor System Enhances AI Models Autonomously
A newly developed open system named Athanor enables autonomous post-training research for AI. It was designed to see if frontier AI agents could improve base models using public data without human guidance. In a 104-hour test, four Claude Opus 5.5 agents significantly boosted the Qwen3-4B-Base model's performance, reaching 67.3 from 15.9 on a development suite, achieving results comparable to or better than the official Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507 version. The agents accomplished this through data selection, algorithm adjustments, parameter tuning, weight consolidation, and self-distillation.
