Announcing the Databricks storage ecosystem: Governing the enterprise data estate, wherever it lives
Databricks announced the Databricks Software-Defined Storage (SDS) Ecosystem and the OpenSharing protocol to connect enterprise storage environments to Databricks without moving data. By integrating OpenSharing servers/endpoints with Unity Catalog, the ecosystem enables secure, governed access to on-premises and hybrid structured data in Databricks Serverless Compute and related AI features. Databricks also says it plans to extend OpenSharing for unstructured data via Volumes APIs to support additional GenAI workloads.
