AI-Generated Images Can Perform as Well as Stock Photography
In a study of 77 participants rating a fictional consulting firm's webpage, AI-generated hero images produced no perception penalty against real stock photos. Ratings for trustworthiness, professionalism, and authenticity were slightly higher for the AI images, though only the authenticity difference reached statistical significance, by 0.4 points. Participants who suspected AI involvement rated pages less favorably, and perceived diversity and representation shaped impressions more than image source.
