AI agents suspected in South Korean bank breaches
South Korean authorities are investigating several recent bank security breaches, which they suspect were carried out by AI agents utilizing the Chinese cybersecurity tool Artex AI. These incidents resulted in the exposure of personal information for at least 68,000 individuals across seven financial institutions. Officials report this as the initial known instance of AI agents compromising the financial sector, with President Lee Jae Myung highlighting how AI lowers the barrier to entry for hacking. A dedicated 28-person investigative team has been assigned to the case.
