AI agents outperform PyTorch in faster CUDA kernel generation
Testing of AI-generated CUDA kernel optimizations revealed that AI agents successfully created accurate, high-performance GPU kernels, including a split-precision matrix multiplication that ran 1.57 times faster than the equivalent using torch.compile. However, the experiments indicated that establishing a reliable testing framework to prevent measurement errors and false performance gains presented a greater challenge than generating the optimized code itself.
